New facade with old charm
The striking building 'De Planeet' in Utrecht was built in the 1940s as a department store under the name 'Galeries Modernes'. In the course of changing functions, however, it was converted beyond recognition. The aim of the latest refurbishment was to restore its unique transparent appearance from the time of the legendary French shopping temples. The aim was to recreate the original details using modern materials and systems.
JM van Delft relied on various systems from Jansen. The VISS facade steel profile system was used on both the first floor and the second floor, partly in a curved version and partly with bronze-colored cover caps.
The doors on the first floor were made from the compatible Janisol system. Janisol Arte was used from the second to the fourth floor, also partly in concave curved form. Matching Economy fire doors were used in the basement area, the appearance of which can be seamlessly combined with Janisol products.
