The manufacturer initiative is based on the understanding that it is better to make a joint response to digital opportunities and challenges. The idea is to implement a comprehensive approach rather than to promote individual products. The objective of the manufacturer initiative, which is part of the Bundesverband Bausysteme e.V., is to produce practical digital product data and services, exchange information and experience between companies, provide a network for manufacturers and customers, and extend digital value-creation chains. The aim is therefore to successfully contribute to the development of the classical processes that are mostly not yet digitally supported to achieve a consistent BIM-based method.
With its «productsforbim» label, the new initiative constitutes a firm commitment to the BIM method, with a concrete reference to real products. The hope is that shared experience will help to explore future BIM-based applications and to support active cooperation in the successful development of BIM with the product data supplied by the manufacturers.
